S1E08 - Minimum Security - Has anyone else noticed that early in the series DiNozzo was clueless about movies? In S1E1, Yankee White it was Gibbs who made all the references to Air Force One not Tony. And in S1E8 Minimum Security Both Gibbs and Caitlin referred to Shane and Alan Ladd and Tony did not seem to even know either one. He even told a bartender that he had never seen the Maltese Falcon. So, how, in a couple of years did he become such an expert in movies and TV shows.

I would like to learn more on how this evolved.~~~~

Tony has indeed referenced loads of films throughout the series. I think the writing for the show is incredible in this area. How they work in well known movies, to those only a fraction of folks have seen. I was well impressed when Tony referenced the movie "So I Married An Ax Murderer" - one of my favorite movies ... and one that not many people I've encountered have seen.

Hey Mary,

While I was walking on the treadmill a little while ago, a thought struck me about last nights episode and the "demand" Hollywood puts on actors to be trim and fit - and very often, unhealthy looking for how thin they are.

{For example: When Friends started they all look thin, but healthy. And by the end, Courtney Cox-Arquette and Jennifer Aniston both looked toooooooo thin.}

Right, there was a moment at the beginning of the show where Tony commented on Tim's weight loss. Which, ironically, is a thought I had while watching last weeks episode, that the actor has lost a noticable amount of weight over the past season or so. While he doesn't yet look ill, it started me thinking. When the actor started on the show he wasn't overweight, so I wonder if he's feeling the pressure of being on a Hit Series at the moment - feeling the Hollywood Heat ... or if it was really just a personal decision to lose some weight.

First off, did you notice that the kid at the beginning - running thru the corn - the one with the longer hair, was the same kid actor who plays Boothe's son on Bones. (At least I think it was.)

I think as a society we tend to depend on technology to much these days - as a society in general, we don't learn how to do things "the hard way" anymore, ok not everyone but a lot of people. ;o)

PS...he split up the team to try and uncover a mole in NCIS, and while I agree it was kinda sucky for them to be apart, he did it for a good sound reason. It was a decision and action taken that someone in his type of job - in the real world - might really have to make. As watchers of a beloved TV show we get very attached to the characters - especially when they are written and acted as well as they are on NCIS. However, we must also remember that they are fictionalizing a real job, and as with any job out there, there are parts of it that we don't like. His decision to seperate the team, I think, was made for sound directorial reasons. Except, perhaps, Tony's extended absence.

(And I still like him more than Jenny ... tee hee.)

As a person in the entertainment field, I love when a show uses other forms of communication - especially a television show or film because they reach a much broader audience base! I've always been kind of sad that I don't speak a second language fluently, as so many on this planet do.

I think the United States lacks this educational instrument that is second nature in so many foreign countires around the world - learning, and I mean really learning, a second language as kids. Something NCIS is also very good at, utilizing a variety of foreign languages - which I find accurate for the type of work environment they portray, and accurate for the trend of the world - we're so global/international now.

In every country I have been in - and it's a sizeable number - the people native to that land typically speak their native language and English, and often times another language as well. It made me think, with so many Spanish speaking areas so close to the United States (and with in it) why don't we require our children to learn Spanish starting in Grade School? Just a thought.

Where NCIS uses Sign Language - I believe it is because both Abby and Gibbs have hard of hearing individuals in their families - I think it's Abby's Parents and so it is something that character has done since birth - which taps into what you said with regards to your son ... and other babies in the world who are taught to sign things before their verbal skills are developed. My niece included, she learned several 'baby' signs so that she could communicate with her parents before she began speaking out loud.

I do wonder how well the actors know sign language in real life though, or do they just practice the few motions needed for the shows tapings? Interesting ...

I think it's interesting when you use a form of public transportation so regularly that certain faces become like good friends, even if you don't actually know them. You find yourself checking to see if they are there when you get on, or checking to see if they get at their stop.

It makes me think ... those people have full lives just like you do. Even if you never saw them, they still exist. When you see someone for the first time - in a situation like this - there is the possability that you might never see them again, and yet they still exist ... out there in the world, even if you don't see them.

Weird. Neat. Cool! ;o)

I would also like to commend you on the fact that you say hello to your regular bus driver, and wish him a nice evening every time you ride. Good for you! Too many people leave out the niceities of life!!!
